Tell me a little about the Chelsea - what did you want to create with this new design?

The Chelsea was developed with openness and elegance in mind, along with practicability. The Chelsea is the dream home for a growing family. With space for guests, study for the kids, entertaining or just lounging in front of the TV, it provides for all without compromising on style. The home design really tries to capture what the Hamptons-themed home is all about, which in our mind is a holiday within your own home with family and friends.

What that are the key design elements of the Chelsea?

With the Chelsea we wanted to have an immediate impact upon entrance, which meant a strong emphasis on the facade during the development stage. The facade is about symmetry and piers to give a sense of volume and invitation. At the porch, the double entry doors continue to drive this.

The second design element, and the most powerful, is the raised ceiling over the kitchen and family area. The raised roof employs a run of highlight windows around the perimeter of the raised roof. This area is all about maximising light and space in an area that receives a lot of use.

Do you see a big demand for Hamptons themed styling as part of a new build?

In our mind the Hamptons style came back into trend due to the over reliance on minimalist and industrial style homes within the home design landscape. Hamptons style is the counter balance needed to industrial/modern themed housing, proving that warm, classic and time honoured styling can be done in a trendy contemporary manner.

What are the key features of a Hamptons Themed home, such as this version of the Chelsea?

The key products in the Chelsea are rich timber flooring, colonial windows, wall paneling, paneling to the kitchen cupboards, black tapware, use of warm greys and whites with paint and carpet. The Chelsea looks to use these key elements without overdoing the theme. Furnishing can really drive home the style with sheer curtains, grey and white sofas, navy splashed throughout with pillows and throws, nautical themed artwork etc.

Do consumers consider how they will furnish the house when building a new home?

Absolutely. Every design we come up with must also be looked at in detail with a furniture layout plan. This was very important with the Chelsea, a room is as only as good as you can furnish it.  This includes window placements, views to the outside, size, scale etc.

What are the must-have products for the Chelsea?

    • James Hardie Lining Boards

    • “Black Rock” Timber flooring from Accent Carpet

    • Colonial Windows from Wideline in Matt Black

    • Smeg Dolce Stil Novo appliances to the Kitchen

    • Real Flame ‘Hybrid’ Gas Heater Fire Place

    • Colorbond Matt Shale Grey
