5 Ways to Start Building Your Dream Home (at Home)!

While Australia continues to flatten the coronavirus curve, none of us know exactly when life will return to normal. Or how that ‘new normal’ will look.

At Hall & Hart Homes, we believe that a true dream home is perfectly customised to a family’s lifestyle, and that affordable luxury should be within reach of every family.

If you’ve been planning to build your forever home, social distancing restrictions need not be a deterrent to starting the journey. This is the time to lay strong foundations with research and planning, so that you can hit the ground (works) running when the time is right!

Hall & Hart Homes are open for business, with our whole team set up to work efficiently from home and our display homes open by appointment, in strict adherence with government guidelines.

We’ve broken down the five key phases to using the restrictions period successfully.

Phase #1 Establish a Time Management Strategy

We understand it’s an extremely busy time for many, juggling children, navigating home schooling and work. Despite being at home the whole time, it can fly by!

If you’re serious about building your dream home, schedule sacred time to concentrate exclusively on this project. Whether it’s a half hour at the same time every day after the kids are in bed, or a half morning a week, make it an appointment that you keep.

One positive of having so much downtime at home with your partner is that it is easier to find time to discuss your plans together. It’s an opportunity to get on the same page about what your dream home will look like and put a strategy together.

    Phase #2 Get Inspired

Thanks to the web, the world of interiors and home design is at the touch of your fingertips!

Phase #2 is about diving in and finding inspiration. What does the kitchen look like? How many bathrooms do you need? Is alfresco entertaining important? This is the perfect time to match design elements to how your family lives.

Pinterest is a brilliant platform for making online visual scrapbooks. You can easily pin pictures from home design magazines into different categories.

Head over to the Hall & Hart Homes Pinterest board to get started. We regularly pin photos of our different homes and premium selections. Don’t forget that designs can be customised to suit you, so feel free to mix and match ideas. Whether it’s home living spaces, alfresco design or butlers’ pantries, we have ideas for you!

When it comes time to make your selections for your home, you’ll work with our dedicated designers at Studio You.  This state-of-the-art showroom showcases premium products from our suppliers. Unlike other builders, we offer clients an extensive array of high-quality, included selections; part of our mission to help you build a you home.

Studio You is open by appointment to one client/family group at a time, with full social distancing measures in place. You can also set up a virtual consultation.

    Phase #3 Compare and Review

Check out reviews of companies you’re considering on building forums and review sites. Productreview.com.au is an objective site which aggregates consumer scores for Australian companies and services. Hall & Hart Homes is one of the few companies to currently have a solid 5-star rating on the site.

Take a virtual tour of our display homes, to get a feel for the different styles. Our homes are diverse and suit different budgets and tastes.

One of our major points of difference at Hall & Hart is our flexibility. Whether you want to add a workshop or a gourmet kitchen, we’ll work out a way to make it happen. Each home design is tailored to the client and we can work with you to find your best custom design approach.

Phase #4 Connect with a Sounding Board

It’s important to stay socially connected with friends and family during this time. Many of us have taken to Zoom or House Party to video chat throughout the lockdown period.

This is a great opportunity to organise a Zoom call with a friend or family member who has built their own home. A Q & A session on things that went well, or they would’ve done differently will assist you in your own planning.

There are also a host of podcasts to listen to that give expert advice on designing a home, such as Undercover Architect or The Design Files.

Phase #5 Talk to Hall & Hart

Our whole team is set up with the latest technology to work seamlessly from home. We can talk you through the details, get planning underway and plough through the paperwork during this period.

Don’t worry – you’re not locked into anything until you’ve signed the final contract, after council approvals have been received, you’ve made your final selections, received your homeowner’s warranty and construction certificate. You’ll receive a Hall & Hart Genuine Price which means there are won’t be any nasty surprises down the track.

Our display homes in Marsden Park and Box Hill are open by appointment as per government guidelines. There’s a maximum of one family group per home, with 1.5 metres of social distancing in place. We’ve implemented increased hygiene measures in our display homes and on construction sites to play our part in keeping the Australian community safe.

Your health, wellness and safety – and that of our employees and trades – is always top of mind.

Hall & Hart Homes are here for you. Let’s make the most of this time and get you on the path to building a you home! Get in touch today.
